The Modern Homestead: Hello Scott, and thanks for the chance to interview you about the Stop Animal I.D. site. I know you have been busy and that the Derry Brownfield Show has offered to interview you also, so we feel privelaged at The Modern Homestead to be in good company!

Emily Dixon (Ozark_Jewels on The Modern Homestead) lives on a farm in Missouri and keeps about 150 head of goat. She raises an assortment of goats and eats the meat from these goats along with milking them.

Emily gives her insight this month on butchering a goat at home. The most amazing thing about her method is that there are not a bunch of specialty tools and knives that she uses. She uses everyday materials available at home.

The National Animal Identification System

Perhaps you have heard of The National Animal Identification System? Type the seemingly innocuous letters N.A.I.S. into a search engine and you begin to read about a plan put forth by the government of the United States to track EVERY farm and animal in the U.S.A. no matter what the size.

Burning Wood for the Winter

It's winter time here around the homestead. Many of us are burning wood in our wood burners as we read this. There is something special about wood heat. There is a nice warmth associated with a wood heat, a heat that you can get a little warmer by sitting next to the woodburner, or by adding a few more logs. As with anything there are trade-offs, but nothing that can't be dealt with. Extremely dry air, static electricty from the extremely dry air, hot pockets and cold pockets, and the mess of carrying wood. [more ...]
